ESMT strives to generate relevant and ground-breaking knowledge for managers, business and policy makers through the integration of world-class research with a practice oriented approach. Members of ESMT’s faculty come from a wide variety of international, academic, and professional backgrounds. ESMT’s campus is located in the historical center of Berlin, with an additional location in Schloss Gracht near Cologne. Learning for Leading * ESMT offers two types of MBA programs: a one-year Full-time MBA and a 21-month Executive MBA. As a participant you benefit from the distinctive and inspiring combination of an international, experienced faculty and a world-class community of multinational corporations. ESMT Full-time MBA Empowering Future Professionals * Our Full-time MBA program is composed of two main phases: Mastering Management and Taking the Lead. During phase one, you gain a solid foundation in the fundamentals of management such as organizational behaviour, corporate finance and marketing. At the end of the first six months you get the chance to discover new business environments during an international field project. Past field projects took our MBA participants to China, India and Mexico. The second phase stresses the areas where future leaders must excel: innovation, entrepreneurship, governance and leadership. An integrative part of “Taking the Lead” is the practice project, in which you work in a team on an assignment submitted by one of ESMT’s partner organizations. The nature of the seven-week assignment is similar to that of a consulting project with the aim of proposing applicable recommendations to the company’s management. The practice project also serves as the background for your master’s thesis. This master’s thesis aims to test your ability to review an area of management studies, to synthesize the main theories and models, and to discuss their applicability. After a challenging but rewarding year, you receive your MBA degree in December.
ESMT Executive MBA - How you learn shapes how you lead * Our Executive MBA program gives you the chance to thrive in your job while earning a top degree and preparing for a major career boost. The program consists of three phases * The first phase builds a solid foundation in business and management issues such as economic thinking, accounting and performance management and business strategy. The second phase prepares you to make a difference by developing your strategic leadership capabilities. You will also have the opportunity to sharpen your edge in one of the program’s two focus areas: international management or technology and innovation management. The final phase takes you on a 10-day international field seminar and gives you the chance to work on an individual assignment within your company. This practice project increases your visibility within your own business environment as you deliver direct value to your company. The assignment is most likely the basis for your master’s thesis. A vital component of the program is the Individual Leadership Development Itinerary (ILDI). It has been designed to enhance your leadership competences through individual and group coaching, a series of executive tools and skills development activities, personal reflection, and exchange with faculty and peers. Student Profiles * As a typical ESMT MBA participant you already stand on a strong professional leg and have the ambition to make a difference. Our Full-time MBA class of 2010, composed of 40 participants from 21 nations, has on average 6 years of work experience. We select our participants as much based on their leadership potential as we do on strong academic performance. ESMT is proud that 35 percent of the Full-time MBA class 2010 is female. “The program is challenging - inside and outside the classroom. There‘s an extraordinary mix of educational backgrounds, life experiences and nationalities.” (Maria Vazquez-Merchant, Full-time MBA Class of 2008) “My first interview at ESMT made a profound impression on me. As I walked through the great building and met a large part of the faculty, I thought to myself, ‘This is it. This school has exactly the kind of entrepreneurial spirit I am looking for’.” (Frank Eulitz, Manager Engineering Validation and Manager Compressor Development at Siemens AG; Executive MBA Class of 2007-09)
